GENESIS

Makersplace - 15 December 2023
12 PM ET

The exhibition includes two 1/1s, and edition of 5, and 3 pieces as a mint on request.

‘GENESIS’ forms the inaugural exhibition of "Impressions of the Metaverse" by Daniel Martin. This exhibition is a tribute to the ordinary yet captivating things that the artist has encountered in his daily life, from the quiet intimacy of his home and studio, to the vibrant experiences of his travels.

One afternoon (2023)

‘One afternoon’ is one of Martin's first wireframe artworks. It explores the interaction of the human form with various sizes and layers of wireframe. An everyday moment spent with his girlfriend resulted in an artwork that sets the tone for the entire wireframe series. ‘One afternoon’ is not merely a depiction of a casual, relaxing afternoon, but rather a reflection of the artist's deep-seated fascination with the juxtaposition of the organic human form against the rigid, geometric structure of wireframes.

‘One afternoon’ provides the introduction to this digital exhibition. It sets the stage for a journey of exploration that challenges our perceptions of reality, identity, and the intersection of the human experience with technology. As we navigate through the gallery, each successive artwork builds upon this foundational theme, presenting new dimensions and perspectives for the viewer to discover and interpret.

Conversations (2023)

‘Conversations’ stands as a testament to Martin’s ability to fuse time, space, and an array of emotions into a cohesive whole. It is a piece that dissects the very essence of our lives – the connections we form and the conversations that shape us. At its core, ‘Conversations’ is a medley of moments and locations, painting a vivid picture that extends from the revelry of a nocturnal adventure with friends in Amsterdam to the quietude and creative introspection that marked Martin’s art residency in Mexico. Each piece of artwork in this collection serves as a snapshot – a moment frozen in time, yet teeming with life and stories waiting to be unearthed.

Under a tree (2023)

‘Under a tree’ draws you to the beautiful symphony of colors that have been used to depict the tranquility of a Dutch 'hofje' (a courtyard with housing units) in Spring. Martin has imparted a sense of serenity that is often associated with such intimate communal gardens. In this work, Martin leverages the power of digital artistry to convey a scene that is both recognizable yet dreamlike. The bright splashes of color that depict the blossoming tree are juxtaposed against the calming hues of the surrounding architecture and garden. This visual narrative elicits a sense of belonging, a testament to the harmonious existence of nature within human habitats. The blossoming tree, standing tall, is the centerpiece of the artwork, symbolizing life and renewal.

The following pieces can be minted on request.

Exiles on island (2023)

‘Exiles on island’ offers a glimpse into a shared experience, encapsulating a unique moment in time and space that transcends the mundane and reaches into the realm of symbolic representation. Martin’s stay in a cabin on a tiny man-made island with a group of people, far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, served as the central theme for ‘Exiles on island’. This experience is transformed in a piece that does not just depict an island and its occupants, but also delves into the complexities of human interaction and the dynamics of a group thrown together by circumstance. The island, in this context, becomes a physical manifestation of the psychological landscapes we create around ourselves.

The Cow's Ear Trilogy: A Study of Shapes and Textures I (2023)

This trilogy stands out due to the unique inclusion of a series of sculptures revolving around the shape of a cow's ear. These meticulously curated and showcased sculptures are more than just objects; they are the embodiment of Martin's fascination with the allure of all found and collected, natural forms and textures.

Martin's work, as reflected in these pieces, demonstrates a profound connection with the tactile world, a connection often overlooked in the digital era. These cow ear sculptures are his attempt to navigate this dichotomy. They represent a quest of sorts, exploring and celebrating the relationship between the tangible and the intangible.

Each of the three cow ear sculptures are distinct, yet they all commence from the same starting point—a dried cow's ear. This beginning, akin to a blank canvas, opens a world of possibilities for Martin, allowing him to mold, reshape, and reimagine organic objects.

The first sculpture captures the raw, unadorned beauty of the cow's ear in its natural state. The second, a more abstract representation, distorts the original form into a series of intricate patterns. In the final sculpture, the ear is transformed into a digital sea of pixels, blurring the line between the real and the virtual.

Through the interplay of these pieces, the trilogy paints a rich array of shapes and textures, a testament to Martin's love for collecting and transforming objects. His work stands as proof to the power of imagination, serving as a reminder of the magic that can be found in the most ordinary things, if one only takes the time to truly see.
