INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Daniel Martin’s latest project: Impressions of the Metaverse.

As an evocative representation of our modern world, Impressions of the Metaverse emerges from a symphony of digital constructs, mirroring the ceaseless evolution of our era. It spins a narrative of life that resonates beyond the traditional confines of physical reality, striking a chord in the symphony of our 'new normal'. This series traces the blurred lines between the tangible and the intangible, embodying the fascinating interplay between our physical existence and the expanding digital horizon.

Impressions of the Metaverse emerged from a sense of creative constriction. Feeling trapped in various artistic mediums by their restrictions, Martin was eager to delve into any and all mediums simultaneously to break free from the idea of being bound to a single discipline. That is why he created Impressions of the Metaverse: his own digital museum with his own art on view, with multiple exhibitions to come. The project is a process of connection that bridges various elements into a coherent whole: it weaves together the threads of artist, audience, and exhibit.

Within this digital museum, visitors encounter layers of digital creation. Martin harnesses the possibilities of 3D technology to create dynamic mash-ups of his own environment. Using 3D scanning, he captures the people and objects that populate his world, repurposing these elements together into digital wireframes. The lines of his wireframes converge and diverge, creating an image that is simultaneously precise and abstract, solid and fluid. Sculptures can now gracefully traverse a space, transcending their previously static nature.

Martin heralds the dawn of a new era where art is no longer confined within the walls of a physical gallery alone but can move freely, accessible to all who connect to the vast expanse of the internet. Transporting his individual digital works into a new, almost physical yet digital space, Martin challenges the traditional perception of space, form, and reality. His creations are a blend of the old and the new, tangible and intangible, culminating in a unique artistic expression. He makes digital art more palpable, reshaping the perception of his audience, and demonstrating the potential trajectory of (digital) art.
